Authentic Lake District Farm Experiences & Artisan Produce in Beautiful Buttermere
Unearth, Inquire, Conserve and Champion
Experience an unforgettable school trip to the Lake District where your students can explore sustainable farming, conservation, and traditional rural skills in action. During your visit, we showcase how food is produced responsibly within a traditional Lake District farming system, highlighting farming-led nature recovery and climate resilience.
Students will also discover heritage crafts such as spinning, weaving, and felting with wool, learning how these skills add value, reduce waste, and support a more sustainable future for farming communities. Improve your relationship with wild places
At Cragg House Farm in the Lake District, we aim to inspire the next generation of farmers while actively protecting and enhancing natural habitats. Our passion for sustainable farming and heritage livestock breeding drives everything we do — from caring for our hefted Herdwick flock to restoring the land they graze on.
Through our educational and conservation activities, we explore key issues around sustainability, biodiversity, and traditional agriculture. Visitors are encouraged to, in the words of the John Muir Trust, “discover, explore, conserve, and share” a wild place within a working farm landscape.
We’re proud to show how farming and nature can thrive together, inspiring people to advocate for sustainable land management and demonstrating the real benefits that community-focused farm enterprises bring to society and the environment.
Traditional crafts & produce
Experience the true taste of the Lake District with our range of handmade and home-produced farm goods, available from our Farm Hut in Buttermere or through our online farm shop.
We use milk from our own rare-breed goats to create luxurious goat’s milk soaps, handcrafted with natural scents inspired by the Buttermere Valley. You can also shop for fresh free-range eggs, seasonal meat, and beautiful wool, yarn, and raw fleece from our hefted Herdwick sheep.
Our aim is to share the best of Lake District farming — sustainable, ethical, and full of local character — straight from our farm to your home.
“We are founded on shared vision, values and strong collective experience ”
