πŸ‘ Wonderful Wool β€” A Hands-On Learning Experience

Ideal for Key Stages from Foundation Upwards

Celebrate the heritage and creativity of farming in the Lake District while keeping traditional skills alive.
Your day begins with an interactive farm tour, meeting our animals and exploring how we work alongside nature to care for the land. Pupils will discover:

  • Animal habitats, life cycles, and adaptations

  • Food chains and food webs

  • Geography and land use

  • Sustainable farming practices

Then, experience the journey of wool β€” from sheep to finished product. Learn to spin yarn, weave on a loom, or wet-felt a piece of art inspired by the Buttermere landscape. Every child will take home their own age-appropriate handmade wool craft, a meaningful reminder of their day on the farm.

🍎 Fell to Fork β€” From Farm to Plate (AVAILABLE FROM JUNE 2026)

Ideal for Key Stage 1 and above

Discover where our food really comes from with this hands-on farm learning experience set in the heart of the Buttermere valley.

Your pupils will meet our animals and explore how food is produced on a working Lake District hill farm. As we walk through the farm pupils will learn about:

  • Where our food comes from

  • Seasonal farming and local food production

  • Animal welfare and responsible farming

  • The journey of ingredients from field to plate

  • The role farms play in caring for the landscape and supporting wildlife.

Children will take part in a guided cooking activity, preparing a traditional meal for their lunch using simple, wholesome ingredients inspired by the farm. Together they will make:

  • Shepherd’s Pie, using lamb raised on the farm (with a vegetarian option available)

  • Apple Crumble, using apples grown in our orchard

Working in small groups, pupils will learn basic food preparation skills while exploring how fresh ingredients are transformed into a meal.

At the end of the session, children will enjoy the food they have made together β€” a memorable way to experience the full journey from fell to fork.
