Educational Experiences
We can:
Utilise our farm buildings to provide an educational base for outdoor learning opportunities;
Make links to a variety of subjects in the national curriculum (thanks to Rach’s role as a primary school teacher in a nearby village school) through a range of our topics such as: farm tours, habitats & conservation, food for thought, wonderful wool and
seasonal art;
Provide ready-made risk assessment documents for our venue and activities;
Use the farm as a location to offer the John Muir Award;
Signpost schools to funding and grants that are available to them to cover the costs of a paid educational trip.

Wildlife Habitats
Ideal for Key Stages 1 & 2
Discovering a world of wonderful wildlife
Who do we share our environment with? Discover the wildlife that has made Cragg House Farm its home; learn to recognise them by their tracks, eating and nesting habits. Work as a team to discover the relationship between the human and animal world and choose a selection of wildlife habitats to make and take home. Learn about animal classification, life cycles and adaptations whilst playing a role in protecting their environment through conservation activities. Each child will take home a mini bug hotel or set of pine cone bird feeders.
Wonderful Wool
Ideal for Key Stages 1 & 2
Keeping traditional skills alive
Witness the journey of wool from sheep to finished product. Have a go at learning to spin yarn, weaving on a loom to make seat pad or wet felting a piece of art inspired by the land around us. Each Child will take home an age related handmade woolly craft from their workshop.
Food for Thought
Ideal for Key Stages 1 & 2
Sustainable skills to delicious discoveries
Explore sustainable food production and learn where real food comes from, how we grow it and changing tastes through time. Watch us milk our goats and help us care for our vegetable plants. Each child will be able to plant a seed to take home and nurture. This session can also be linked to Geography topics on land use.
Coming Soon: Turn our homegrown and local produce into a two course tasty meal for you and your group.
Seasonal Art
Ideal for Key Stages 1 & 2
Creating crafts in partnership with the seasons
Celebrate the turning of the seasons in an immersive nature walk. Be inspired by the colours, textures and patterns; collect leaves to print, sticks to whittle and nuts, berries and fungi to make natural dyes. Enjoy a variety of other seasonal crafts as you see the world around you in a new light. This can also be adapted to cover photography looking at composition and capturing action shots of our animals under the guidance of Rach.
