Stay With Us

Experience authentic Lake District farm life with a stay at Cragg House Farm, offering two types of dog-friendly accommodation in one of the most stunning valleys in Buttermere. Choose between our cosy two-person holiday cottage or our spacious eight-person camping barn, both surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery.

Less than 100 metres from your door, your four-legged friends can enjoy some off-lead fun in our private, stone-walled dog paddock — an exclusive space designed for dogs to play safely while you relax and take in the views.

Cragg House Farm is the perfect base for an adventure-filled Lake District holiday, with mountain hikes, cascading waterfalls, technical mountain bike trails, scenic gravel tracks, and peaceful lakeshores for wild swimming or paddleboarding — all within easy reach from the doorstep.

Steeped in history, Cragg House Farm was acquired by the National Trust in 1987 and sits on the edge of Buttermere Village and Buttermere Common, where we continue our traditional grazing practices. The north-facing farmhouse and attached stone barn, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, are Grade II listed, showcasing the area’s rich farming heritage. Our farmland spans around 49 hectares, including pasture, rough grazing, and woodland, offering a genuine glimpse into traditional hill farming in the Lake District.
